Instructions to the heat cost calculator The calculation, based on estimation is trying to answer the very important and frequent question that how much does it approximately cost to heat our home. We are comparing that the wrong and right choices of the different energy sources and heating installations how can affect the heating bill. Simple, quick, let's take a look at it!

Ready, steady, go!

Below the calculator, we collected some hints which are worth the reading, but here is the gist: the size of the heated floor area, the quality of the thermal insulation, settle the temperature of the house, changing the yearly heating period, and comparing the variations of what to heat with and how. We updated the prices of the energy sources in 29/01/2013 and tagged some comments onto the topic.

Our unconcealed goal is to highlight that how important is the thermal insulation and to choose the right energy source and heating installation. (We haven't made calculations of solar collectors, PV panels and windmills yet, because it requires a different approach. In this case we put the emphasize on the operational costs, disregarding the installation costs, but in the case of renewable energy sources the cost division is the opposite.)

During the making of the calculator we tried to make it available for everyone and You can use it without knowing any very specific data. Because of this, there are predefined options to choose from, but if You would like to make a more exact calculation from more specified datas, You can fill in the different fields with your own items.

Detached house, flat

We separated the detached houses from the flats, because the latter's heating demand is decreased significantly because of the multiple heated bordering surface (neighbouring flat).

The cost is not everything!

It should be an aspect to make the environment less loaded and how can we cut ourselves adrift from the public utility networks. Another factor is the comfort. We can easily become lost if we only looking for the low costs and don't pay attention to how much comfort a surface mounted radiant heating (wall-, underfloor, overhead heating) can give than the local heating installations.

What temperature do You feel comfortable?

It is a very important question, because +/-1 °C changing, generates a 6% of difference in the applied energy amount. It is worth to think about, how much money can we save if we heat our house to "just" 20 °C instead of 24 °C.
